Bhagavad Gita shlokas that can cure diseases

Thanks to Hindu blog

What if someone tells you that Bhagavad Gita Shlokas have a curative effect on many diseases and ailments? You will be hesitant to believe it but still you will be interested to know more. Such an interest led me to the book titled “The Curative Powers OF The Holy Gita” written by Dr. T.R. Seshadri, which explores the healing powers of shlokas in the Bhagavad Gita.

The book ‘The Curative Powers OF The Holy Gita’ in Seshadri’s words is a quest for attaining integration – of the body, soul, mind and intellect – so as to achieve the knowledge of SELF for a define purpose.

What the book suggests is not a therapy but a sort of faith healing – a combination of shlokas from Bhagavad Gita along with Yoga and Meditation.

The book says that most of the modern day diseases are psychosomatic – caused by mind. Emotional disturbances like hatred, anger and fear destroy not only our peace of mind but our health as well. They are often caused by the over-or-under secretion of the endocrine glands which secrete chemical hormones into the blood stream, which affects body functions like growth, digestion and energy levels, etc.

Yoga and meditation are capable of relieving stress and strain and creating a relaxed mind. When a relaxed mind recites specific shlokas from Bhagavad Gita it can cure specific diseases.

The book details about 30 shlokas which have curative powers. It also mentions the method in which the shlokas have to be recited. To quote from the book “…advocate reciting/chanting the specific Mantras three times, once in the morning and once in the evening, and towards the close of Yogic practice….”

The shlokas are to be chanted in Sanskrit.

A few examples:

  • The one who is not depressed in adversity or disturbed by pleasure and pain, and is devoid of attachment, fear and anger – he is indeed a steadfast one. (Gita II – 56)

Chanting of this shloka is ideal for blood pressure (hypertension, hypotension), depression, impotency, neurosis, sexual disorders, stress, syphilis and venereal infections.

  • The turbulent senses forcibly lead astray the minds of even the wise. To control them, one should sit meditation on Me. He who has his senses under control, is steadfast in his wisdom. (Gita II – 61)

For AIDS, alcohol and drug addiction, blood pressure, brain disorders, depression, mental disorders, mind control, neurosis, psychic and psychosomatic illness, sexual disorders, stress, stroke and tension.

  • God is the goal, the sustainer, the witness, the abode, the refuge, the friend, the source, the destroyer, the supporter, the resting place and the imperishable seed. (Gita IX – 18)

For child birth, conception, delivery, gynecological disorders, menstrual problems and pregnancy.

Rendering of verses is surely not going to cure diseases but it can be a supplement to regular medical therapies. But surely the correct understanding of verses in the Bhagavad Gita can alleviate stress and strain, which is the root cause several modern day diseases.

    This is Bullshit.

  4. NICE ARTICLE..!I like ur blog..
    Bhagwan Sri Sathya Saibaba Says:
Bhakthi or devotion is the only path for reaching the Divine destination. Bhakthi is the only panacea for all the ills of this world. Bhakthi is the only method for making you realise the truth. I believe that there will be scarcely any Indian who has not read through the text of the Bhagavad Gita; that there would be none who has not heard and is not aware of the Bhagavad Gita. The Bhagavad Gita means “The Song of God,” words that have come to us as His flowers, as His prasad. Vyasa has woven these flowers, the words of God, into a beautiful garland and has gifted it to us.

  5. Believe in yourself. In this resides true faith. These is no ‘one’ cure that works for everyone. We are all gods only the individual knows what’s right the them at any particular time. Better Information, Better Decisions …

I feel sorry for people who believe they are Gods. Yes, we have to take decisions in life but we suffer from 4 defects according to scriptures which are all evident for everyone to see. Our senses are imperfect ie we do not see reality all the time due to their defectiveness ie the sun is always shining in the sky but when our eyes are covered by the sky we cannot see the sun and say there is no sun. We cannot see beyond a wall.
We see a broken stick when the stick is kept in a beaker half full of water due to laws of refraction. We have a tendency to cheat. We see that everyone cheats in different ways. There is no one who can say that they dont cheat at all and that is why we think we are Gods even when we cannot do even minor things. We have propensity tomake mistakes. Everyone has experienced making mistakes. We do not know the reality from illusion. We get fooled all the time and that is why our decisions are wrong. If we knew reality all the time we would never make mistakes and always take the right decision but we guess because we cannot perceive reality and are wrong most of the time. Yet we claim to be God. God is omnipotent, omnipresent and omnicient who is beyond this and that is why he creates such perfection. Just see that in one seed a tree is hidden and when that trees grows it bears millions of fruits and seeds in which more trees are hidden. If you are God try to make one seed. This is one small example. There are trillions like this which will prove that you are not God. God gives his scriptures for us to follow in our lives so that our lives can be succesful. So we should do just that.

Please stop extrapolating philosphical discourses into the realm of scientific ‘benefits’. I am a Hindu and its a pity that some people need to ‘see’ such material benefits to embark on a spiritual transport. Further, peace of mind in the true sense in general improves our state of mind and bodily functions like bp. Theres is no need for God to do this.
And anyways… syphilis and venereal diseases are infections caused by microbes (eg. treponema pallidum) unlike say bp or depression. Now dont give me this bullshit that God will ask Treponema to stop infecting this person who recites a particular sloka.
Enlightened Criticism is of utmost importance if one aspires to experience God.
So stop this non sense and try read what Swami Vivekananda and Sri Sankacharya have to say about the Bhagavad Gita. And of course take some rest.
(I take this effort coz ur blog shows up prominently in a Google search).

When the Vedas were written by an incarnation of God Srila Dvapayana Vyas, he included all sciences into it. Science is a small part of religion. Science acts under the purview of God. Krishna says in the Bhagavad Gita that “This material nature, which is one of My energies, is working under My direction, O son of Kunté, producing all moving and nonmoving beings. Under its rule this manifestation is created and annihilated again and again.” Bhagavad Gita Chapter 9 Text 10. So the whole cosmic manifestation which includes, science, geography, history, physics, laws of gravity and space work under God. Lord Krishna also says in the Bhagavad Gita “O conqueror of wealth, there is no truth superior to Me. Everything rests upon Me, as pearls are strung on a thread.” Bhagavad Gita Chapter 7 text 7. So everything is under the control of God.

These are just two texts. If you read Bhagavad Gita properly you will come to know this. But you have to be guided by someone who knows it.

As for scientists what have they given us a world which is full of stress due to various diseases and they give pain killers which never cures the diseases and people are suffering. What do they know. Can they guarantee that even one personwont die. No one wants to die but everyone dies, no one wants to suffer from old age and disease but still everyone suffers from these. Why? If we are God then we should be able to control these. We cannot and therefore accept that there is a higher power who is controlling this and unless we surrender to this we will come back again and again to this miserable world in the cycle of birth and death.

    • JOE COZ

      Dear Kumail,
Nice to know of your interest in other religions. We should study all religions of the world and we will come to know that there is only one God known by different faiths by different names. The same Krishna of the hindus is Allah to the Muslims and father of Jesus (God) to the Christians.

If you to to google and search for “Bhagavad Gita As It IS” you will get a copy of the Bhagavad Gita in Sanskrit with English translations and purports. Happy reading. If you need any guidance please do not hesitate to contact me on

I am wondering is Lord Krishna directed me to this page about curative healing powers of t Ghagavad GITA n dont know if this is what I should add to my daily chant of t Hare Krishna Maha mantra n reading Bhagavad GITA As It Is, if I would really get off my addiction to sleeping pills, n also get my blood pressure to normal. I have never heard of this before, n it took me over 8 years of chanting to get a healing from the lord with my depression, I am not a devotee just a regular person on t path, but has t light in my heart permanently from t lord, so I will try to see if this works for me n I hope fast, I talk to t lord about this issue, n all I can say is that I am down to a lesser quantity of my pill, I came of salt in my diet which helped to lower my pressure a bit, but cannot stop t pills cold turkey, this is dangerous to do for anyone trying to come off sleeping pills, I tried 15 blood pressure pills n none worked for me, only this sleeping pill, I feel I have some nervous problem that is causing my body to be in this shape, but I am checking out natural things too. If God made everything then I feel he knows me also n where to send me. Don’t get me wrong chanting has great benefits too.
