Endaro Mahanubhavulu

This has been a very fruitful summer.  It has been my great fortune to meet some very great Masters in the past two months.

Karunamayi

It all started when Amma Karunamayi visited New York city. This was my first visit to meet Amma and I was pretty excited to meet her. Great deal has been written about her and I was determined not to miss this chance to meet her.  She is considered an incarnation of Mother Saraswathi herself. It is said the great saint Ramana Maharshi broke his habitual mouna (silence) when Amma’s parents visited him and told them that they would bear a very special divine child. Flushing temple in NY was the venue where she was giving her darshan. The auditorium was teeming with people and they had a small stall displaying Amma’s literature and books on the Vedas and Indian spirituality. Amma was there right on time and the smile on her face was so infectious, it spread a wave of bliss on people’s faces as she moved along onto the dias.

In her talk, Amma stressed on the importance of realizing the divinity in ourself and to pray to Goddess mother to rescue her children. Also she narrated a story about Vidyaranya Swami whose sole devotion to Divine mother brought unending riches to the Krishnadevaraya empire. Amma also talked about the importance of performing yagnas and prayers for world peace and bring peace to Mother Earth. Amma spent some memorable moments talking to me and my mother and we were blissed out coming out after having her darshan.

On the same day, we also visited the Om Sai Mandir which was just a block away from the Flushing temple.  Om Sai Mandir is the first temple in the world to have a life size statue of Sathya Sai Baba. The temple is no less than a miracle. Dr.Rao who manages the temple affairs narrated to us the divine hand in making this temple a reality even when circumstances seemed impossible. The balloon miracle listed in their website is a must watch. Check it out. They perform Rudram, Chamakam every day to the Shiva Linga. It was very heartening listening to Dr.Rao mentioning the days he spent with Swami and the divine leelas in his presence.

In late July, Amma Amritanandamayi made an annual visit to the Boston area and you have to see it to believe how many people visited her. The hugging saint as she is known, attracts people in the thousands and the scene is just like a mini carnival. Waiting for Amma’s hug takes at least 5 or 6 hours of waiting but very much worth it. The loving hug she gives and the energizing words that she whispers in the ear, just seem to dissolve all fatigue. Amma also stresses a lot on performing selfless service along with personal sadhana. Dr. Venkatesh Narayanamurti, the dean of the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), welcomed Amma to the Boston area, placing a garland around her neck and offering a few words regarding Harvard’s collaborations with Amma’s university, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.

One of Amma’s senior disciples says, “Mother is an extraordinary saint, in the number of people she intentionally instills spirituality into – even to extent of hugging every single person who comes to her. Basically, every one is potentially what Mother is. Mother’s presence is invoking that reality (of divinity) within that person.”

Dr.Marella RamaKrishna also affectionately known as Dr.R.K or simply Master garu is probably one of the few people that has influenced me tremendously. His appeal is the scientific aspect of  spirituality and the is a tremendous treasure trove of Vedic knowledge. He has a PhD in Analytical Chemistry and understands very well advanced modern scientific theory not at a superficial level but at a very profound level and links it very well to spirituality. His talks are so very different where he tries to describe the thought process of the Vedic seers and the impact is jaw dropping. Check out some of his talks and books at http://www.missionrkinternational.com/AboutRK.htm I consider my good fortune to be able to spend some time with him in New Jersey.

All in all, it has been a very fulfilling summer and I have to say “Endaro Mahanubhavulu, Andariki Vandanamulu.”
